Simple solution to mounting two kayaks on a roof rack.
Mount the foam pads onto your canoe mount the canoe onto your crossbars.
If you re dealing with two it would be difficult to position the straps around the vessels.
To tie down a kayak place it right side up on your roof rack and center it.
Once the boat is on the roof of the car and the straps are around the bars pull the straps over the canoe or kayak to the other side of the roof rack to avoid car damage or even a broken window.
That will work if you re strapping one kayak.
To install wrap the pads around your crossbars and secure in place.
Place your tie down straps on the kayak roof rack.

Grab your kayak and hoist it to one side of your roof rack.

Run 2 boat straps over the top of the kayak and them under the roof rack bars then bring the straps to the other side of the kayak and loop them under the roof rack bars on that side.

The best option however is to have a bed rack that will allow the kayak to sit level on the cab roof on the front and rack in the back.
