This titanium addition reduces or prevents carbide precipitation during welding and in 800 1500 f 427 816 c service. Type 321 is stabilized against chromium carbide formation by the addition of titanium. Type 321 is a stabilized stainless steel which offers as its main advantage an excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion following exposure to temperatures in the chromium carbide precipitation range from 800 to 1500 f 427 to 816 c. This alloy contains chromium nickel and titanium.

Type 321 is a good choice for applications where heat is an issue. 321 stainless steel coil and sheet is part of the austenitic family of stainless steel. Type 321is a stabilized austenitic stainless steel similar to type 304 but with a titanium addition of at least five times the carbon content. 321 is basically a 304 grade containing a stabilizer of titanium.

Foil is often used as a heat treating wrap in temperatures up to 2600 f. 321 ss is a titanium stabilized austenitic chromium nickel stainless steel which was developed to provide an 18 8 type alloy with improved intergranular corrosion resistance. For service temperatures up to about 1600 f a stabilizing treatment at 1550 1650 f air cool may be used to provide optimum resistance to intergranular corrosion and to polythionic acid stress corrosion cracking. 321 stainless steel sheet 321 is non heat treatable and non magnetic in the annealed condition.

It also improves the elevated temperature properties of the alloy. This material is stabilized against chromium carbide formation by the addition of titanium. This material maintains its corrosion resistance in temperatures up to 1500 f. 321 321 stainless is a titanium stabilized grade commonly used for service in the 1000 1600 f temperature range.
